On January 4th 2012, at a bit of heavy rock/black rock history will take place at the Highline Ballroom in New York City. On January 4th the Black Rock Coalition will sponsor a benefit show called The Million Man Mosh. The show will feature two of the BRC’s most celebrated bands, Living Colour and 24-7 Spyz. This will mark the first time the two New York rock bands have shared a stage on the same bill. The show will also feature session guitar hero Ronny Drayton and the dj of the night will be the legendary godfather of hip-hop Afrika Bambatta. Proceeds will go towards the legal fees for Donovan Drayton, Ronny Drayton’s son. The younger Drayton has been incarcerated for four years at Riker’s island. Although Donavan Drayton admits to being caught up in a marijuana deal that quickly went south, he has not been convicted of any of the major crimes he was accused of. His case however continues to be tied up in the courts and he is due back in court for a second trial. On January 4th the bands/musicians involved in The Million Man Mosh hope to raise money and awareness about Donavan Drayton’s case in particular, the legal system in general and it will also serve as a way to reunite the veteran members of the BRC. As the rock and roll sons of “Jimi and Sly” prepare to rock the roof off the Highline Ballroom, I had the distinct honor of getting a chance to dialogue with Jimi Hazel from 24-7 Spyz, Living Colour’s Vernon Reid and guitar virtuoso Ronny Drayton about the upcoming benefit and cause.

No one can accuse singer/frontman Corey Glover of resting on his laurels. While he is best known as the lead singer of the seminal New York rock band Living Colour, Glover is also making a name for himself in the jam band circuit. That’s right; the hard rock/metal banshee frontman is now lending his compelling vocals to the band Galactic and to a whole host of other jam oriented groups. Glover is also working on a new solo record and he has just finished up a small club tour back east. I caught up with him while he was in New Orleans with Galactic on Halloween, and he hit me with the details regarding his upcoming disc and on everything else he has been up to.

Upstart Punk Rockers Hit the Warped Tour

David Carr, Yahoo! Contributor Network
Aug 10, 2010

Just when you think punk rock has become nothing more than cookie cutter pretty boys who love to whine and wear skinny jeans, a band like The Bots comes along and reminds you of how daring, bold and fun the genre can truly be. Seventeen year old Mikaiah Lei plays guitar and sings and his brother, thirteen year old Anaiah Lei plays the drums. Don’t let their ages fool you.

The Bots are loud, aggressive and they are the shot in the arm punk rock has been waiting for. The drum/guitar duo has a self titled disc (affectionately titled, Self Titled Disc) and it is chock full of energy and intensity and the boys have already graced the stages of The Whisky and the Roxy in Hollywood.

Frontman Sheds Light on His Band

Whole Wheat Bread are a punk rock group coming straight out of Duval County, Florida. The trio has been making their brand of loud, aggressive punk rock since 2002. They have one ep, two full length discs and they have hit both the Warped Tour and the Afro-Punk festival. Frontman Aaron Abraham let me pick his brain on many aspects of the band including favorite festivals they have played, their collaborations with various members in the hip-hop community, and when they plan to hit their fans with some brand new music…READ MORE BELOW:
